In "From Brussels with Love," one of the MCs (Jerome) is a part-time tour guide and through him, the author does an admirable job in portraying life in Brussels, Belgium and giving us historical information. Throughout the book we get a keen sense of the setting and I like how this book exemplifies The World of Love series.
I also like the basics of the plot - Trevor and Jerome meet during Trevor's vacation / forced leave from work and have a steamy holiday fling. Upon Trevor's return home, the two men continue to talk and text and this begins a series of short weekend visits. There's a lot of hot sex and you can sense the chemistry between the two men, but I never felt I really knew either character and with that lack of in-depth character development, the love story between Trevor and Jerome did not engage me as much as the setting. Although the book was relatively short, I had to struggle to stay engaged in the plot and romance.
Without belaboring the fact, I think I'm simply going to have to say this may be a perfect example of "It's not YOU .... it's ME." Please take this review with a huge helping of "Your Mileage May Vary." 3.5 stars for "From Brussels, With Love."
